Be a part of history with The Gunners, Sunderland

An era begins...

The Gunners artillery club was started in the 1940s and was first opened on Norfolk Street in Sunderland, starting as a men only workman's club. In the 1960s, the club was moved to Silksworth Row, also in Sunderland. It continued as a gentleman's club and was moved again in the 90s to its current position in Mary Street. Now in a grade 2 listed building, The Gunners, Sunderland, has undergone a £260,000 revamp to become a Great War themed establishment.

The Gunners today

A £260,000 revamp has bought The Gunners up to date. Keeping in with the Great War theme and no longer a men only establishment, the club now boasts new wooden flooring, vintage decor, a newly revamped function room, USB ports, WiFi, air conditioning and has even had past club members incorporated into the decor.

"The days of clubs are dying and you have to change or go to the wall," explained Alex Bonallie, club steward. “We’ve been called Sunderland’s best-kept secret.”(Sunderland Echo)
